Diaspora is a community of expatriates living away from their homeland.
My Research:
I searched for websites dedicated for Lebanese diasporas in different regions of the world, including Africa, the Gulf, and America. They are all means of communication to Lebanese immigrants and sources of information such as Lebanese events, Lebanese news, and available Lebanese job opportunities.
Here are 3 of the websites I found and the first is the most I liked:
1) Lebanese in bahrain

Manama website: http://www.lebaneseingulf.com/web/index.aspx?country=3
Manama website: http://www.lebaneseingulf.com/web/index.aspx?country=3
This website is an apolitical website dedicated for all Lebanese people living in Bahrain. It is sponsored by and works under the Lebanese Embassy in Bahrain. The website is also run under a bigger one that connects to Lebanese in all Gulf regions. The website’s first page views Lebanese national and international news. It also views news and events of the Lebanese community in Bahrain. Moreover, a special section is specific to Lebanese gulf news only. The page also presents pure Bahrain news and events that can benefit the Lebanese citizens living there. The website’s objective is reconnect Lebanese people living in Bahrain by providing them with a sign up section, membership, and research tool to allow search for contact information. It also provides Lebanese citizens with information about job opportunities in addition to promoting them with Lebanese job vacancies that are provided by Lebanese members of the website themselves.
The website is a credible professional source that can be a safe environment for Lebanese expatriates living in Bahrain. It is organized, thorough and efficient in the sense that it provides all the information that a new or an old Lebanese inhabitant of Bahrain may need in a user friendly arranged structure and design. As for new members, it provides communication, shops and industries for consumers’ needs and job vacancies especially to new starting adults. Old members are also updated on events to participate in. The website is also effective because of its popularity. A lot of people are actually registered on it. Moreover, it is always updated with new and mass information. This makes it a good network of communication for Lebanese to engage outside their lands while keeping connections with their origins. However, few of links of the website are still developing.
2) Lebanese Community in Egypt Association
Lebanese community in egypt association [disapora]. (2009). Retrieved from

http://www.lebanesecommunity.org/associ.php
This website effectively reveals all information that may concern a Lebanese in Egypt. Other than jobs opportunities and events that the website normally provides, the website is divided into a yellow and white page. The white page provides general research for communication information of Lebanese individuals and members of the club. On the other hand, the yellow page is a modest source of information of different nationality organizations and retailers that a Lebanese expatriate may need especially being new. The guide page, however, only guides the site visitors to Lebanese organizations either to promote them as businesses or to provide Lebanese job opportunities to those interested in order to keep Lebanese emigrants of Egypt linked together.
3) Chicago Lebanese Club
Chicago lebanese club [dispora]. (2008). Retrieved from http://www.chicagolebaneseclub.org/default.html
The website looks well designed to be simple and luxurious in order to depict the geographical region from which it springs. In the home page there is a welcoming statement that notes that the website is new. One can then get to know about the website from “About Us” page and other pages. It is a newly developing website that aims to connect members of the Lebanese community living in Chicago by providing them with communication information, future events, and news. It uploads old newsletters which contain political free articles about Lebanese social life in America. The website also has a page for membership that is still under development.

it is interesting how Lebanese’s communities are spreading all around the world. Based on your research, they are in America, Africa and Asia. For me I think the reason behind this is because of the old wars they had to go through and which led them to leave their homeland. And seera you are kind of similar to your three websites in a way because you were born in America, raised in Africa, and currently studying in Asia :D.

I really like the second site a lot. It is very creative of you to choose sites that includes Lebanese in different countries and not just focusing on one country. I like the second site as it is related to Egypt which shows that there a lot of Lebanese living in Egypt and working there which is a good relationship between Arabs. It is also interesting that all your three websites are related to your diasporic life. Keep up the good work and I hope you visit those websites.

While focusing on diaspora, most of us spoke about learning how groups of diaspora focus on learning about their own counrty, somehow forgetting about the country that they are currently living in; you on the other hand found a website that gives people information about their inhibital country, like frist website that you presented, LEBANESE IN BAHRAIN.
ReplyDeleteI also like how the third website,CHICAGO LEBANESE CLUB, offers old news letters about political news in Lebanon. Since Lebanon's politics is so interesting and one would be really interested in going back to its roots.
Thank You.

ReplyDeleteI think I've told you this before in class because we paired up once we had to read each other's papers. I think the sites that you have found are very convenient and they fit perfectly well with your topic (Lebanese Diaspora).
ReplyDeleteYou also put it into words easily, to be honest I had a hard time understanding most posts, including mine! But yours is very clear, and thorough. Good job! :D
