Ola El Barkouki- Egyptian diaspora in U.A.E

Diaspora Website

The word diaspora has more than one meaning. The root of the word means dispersion or scattering. If capitalized "Diaspora" means the exile of the Jewish people from Palestine or modern Israel.

There are a lot of egyptians living outside Egypt and particularly in U.A.E.

I found 3 sites for the egyptian community that lives outside Egypt.

The top and best site is www.ahram.org.eg which is an Egyptian newspaper published in Egypt and is highly aimed and targeted on Egyptians living outside Egypt. We, as Egyptian diasporas, go online and use this website to get to know the current events in Egypt and what is happening in our country. We can also comment on various articles published by the editors.

The second website I liked is www.touregypt.com which is a website that is used by Egyptians in other countries who want to visit and know more about Egypt through the internet and organize trips and book online.

The third and last diasporic site I found is www.egypt.com. This is a site similar to the second one but speaks more about the history of Egypt. A lot of Egyptians use this website to know more about the ancient history of their country by reading and watching videos and photos. The site can also be translated to English. There is an amazing section in the site where visitors can read about news, travel, hotels, flights, tour guide, sports etc.

These websites are used by millions of Egyptians who live outside Egypt and need to know more about its history or its current events and news.

As an Egyptian living outside Egypt, we have a group on Facebook that invites all Egyptians living in U.A.E to join and they organize trips and meetings so we all get to know each other.

  1. Thank you for presenting the roots of the meaning of diaspora, it always makes more sense to know the roots of a meaning, most importatly thank you for pointing out that diaspora in capital D Diaspora has a total different meaning which means: the exile of the Jewish people from Palestine or modern Israel. Now that i know this I will be more careful when Capitalizing that word.
As of the third website you mentioned it sounds really interesting..and since you said it contains infromation about Egypt's history, does that mean that it also includes information about Pharohs?
    Thank you

The fact that you did explain the root meaning is quite interesting and makes a point making it easier to understand what we are talking about here.
The transition on the other hand, between both the definition in the introduction and the topic sentence in your first paragraph which links between Israelis and egyptian is quite irritating.
other than that i found it quite interesting

  4. The origin of the word Diaspora I knew was very different from this one. It was interesting to learn the root of the word. Egypt is one of the earliest civilization and its history and culture really interests me. I looked at the site you researched and they truly gave me some valuable information. I have always wanted to visit Egypt, and after reading your work I am more dedicated.
Thank you for sharing this information.
