· Diaspora’s original root comes from the Greek word disapeirein which means to scatter
· The word Diaspora has several meanings three of which comment on displacement of Jews outside of Palestine. Another possible meaning for Diaspora refers to the “movement, migration, or scattering of a people away from an established or ancestral homeland”

This website is called the Electronic Intifada (EI) and it features news, article commentaries and analysis and various articles and material about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but from a Palestinian perspective. The Electronic Intifada is one the many websites that offers Palestinians up to date and relevant information about the conflict and other issues such as links to arts, music and culture as well updates from people writing daily entries about living in Palestine.
One of the articles that was featured was an editorial styled article; the author comments on the impact of the Palestinian Diaspora on issues regarding their homeland. The author believes that it is the responsibility of variously scattered diasporas’ to help revive the Palestinian dilemma. The article takes an aggressive stance against the current Palestinian administration calling them “collaborators” for willing to have peace talks with Israeli leaders while refusing to do the same with Palestinian leaders of other factions. The author continues to discuss the fact that through different community centers and different NGO’s the younger generation has began to step up and accept the responsibility of keeping of the cause alive. He goes on to discuss the different organizations and their countless charity and awareness events that have been organized. The author ends the article with stressing the importance of the need that the numerous diasporas continue to be active and hold events that would remind those around them of the reality that is happening in Palestine.
This website discusses the idea of a Palestinian displaced Diaspora: meaning that many Palestinians who have left their homeland or expelled in either 1948 or 1967. However what interested me the most about this site is that it provides Palestinians as well as other nationalities with a quick summary of what happened in Palestine and it had happened and as well what is happening today. For those Palestinians who are living outside of their homeland it is important for them to be educated about their history and they should be able to access all of the facts. For there are some that have heard stories about their native land and all the terrible acts that were committed however weren’t able to read about it themselves.

This website speaks purely about the Palestinian diasporas that are currently located outside of Palestine, however what its focus of discussion is if Palestinian in different Arab countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and so forth do consider themselves a community.
What the author is referring to is do Palestinians in the different Arab states relate to each other and form a close knit community that is brought together through not only identity but also culture and tradition and the need to belong with one another. The author continues on to examine each Arab country that host Palestinian refugees

ReplyDeleteI suppose that we through the different media portals have a basic idea of what is going on in the Palestine. However I suppose that none can really understand the reality of what is happening there. We see a lot of images that are constantly flashed on TV and in the newspapers. One cannot help but wonder what is the reality there? Is it true everything we see on television or read in the newspapers or hear in the radios?
ReplyDeleteWhat I did like is that you added different sites that show what happened in 1948 and 1967
