Khushboo Uttamchandani - Indian diaspora

The term Diaspora refers to any people or ethnic population who leave their traditional ethnic homelands, being dispersed throughout other parts of the world. The probable origin of the word Diaspora comes from a word of Greek origin that means scattering or sowing of seeds. The term has been used in its modern sense since the late twentieth century.

The internet is a great platform to unite with people who come from the same tratitional bakgrounds. I found a three websites with unite people in diffret counries. they all are on the indian diaspora

In my opinion GaramChai was the most benifital website i found for the indian diaspora

c.       Garamchai. (1999, December). Retrieved from http://www.garamchai.com/IndiaLinks.htm, 2010 October 15.
The main reason why GaramChai.com started is based on the idea of the vast number Indians in the US, in comparison to the few Web sites that cater to the needs of Indians. There was no comprehensive site on the web that could give a complete listing of all the Indian business and non-profit organizations in the US until GaramChai. They also focus on different aspects of Indian life in the US. GaramChai® is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a Service Mark and was first used in commerce in December 1999.

a.       Garam Chai means – hot tea in Indian. And the websites slogan "desi in pardes"- means "for the Indian abroad"
b.      Garam Chai is a community oriented site and want to provide the most accurate and extensive database that will be useful to Indians in the US.
c.       It talks about latest controversies also updates its audience about the events in India.
d.      It has a chat room and a blog.
e.       Its main focus is the Indian businesses located in the us, it has a list of them enabling Indians to know what to buy from where.
